Abstract

Complementary therapy is a series of various types of treatment and holistic health care as a complement to modern medicine which aims to improve the body's immune system. Complementary therapy became a world phenomenon through the first WHO Global Summit in 2021 in India regarding the development of traditional, alternative and complementary medicine. This study examined respondents who had used complementary therapies. The aim of this research is to determine the perception of the community in Kota Matsum I Subdistrict, Medan District, Medan City Area regarding complementary therapies. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative. The sample for this research was the community of Kota Matsum I Subdistrict, Medan District, Medan City Area, totaling 88 samples with the sampling technique being Pusposive Sampling. Data collection for this research used a questionnaire created by the researcher himself. The results of the research based on the category of public perception about complementary therapies showed that 78 people (89.8%) had positive perceptions and 10 people (10.2%) had negative perceptions about complementary therapies. The conclusion of this research is that many people have positive perceptions due to the ease of access according to their needs and the cost of complementary therapy which is relatively more affordable than modern therapy. Researchers recommend that the public choose complementary therapies that are standardized.
